Weekly Update 2 - w/c 16 September

The children have completed their first full week in Reception! Despite a bit of tiredness and occasional bouts of homesickness, the children have done incredibly well.

We have started our phonics lessons which take place first thing every morning. This week we have been doing lots of oral blending and have learnt 4 new phonemes (sounds): s, a, t and p.  A guide to the pronunciation of all the sounds, and other helpful resources, can be found here on 'Parents' section of the Little Wandle website. Little Wandle resources for parents

In maths, we practised our 1:1 counting. We learnt that if you line the objects up, they are much easier to count compared to when they are in a big pile!

In other lessons, the children drew a picture of their family, describing all the people important to them.  This is such a lovely way to get to know the children and their world.

Finally, in the week the children met our class pet, Rocket, the Giant African Land snail. He lives in a tank in the classroom and the children have been enjoying observing him. This week, they got to see Rocket up close and could choose to look, touch or even hold him.
