Weekly Update 4th October 2024

This week in Nursery we have been continuing to read the book ‘Kindness makes us Strong by Sophie Beer.

Within the book the children learn how to show kindness to one another by sharing, taking turns, giving a helping hand and teamwork. We have continued to learn how to work as a team to tidy our toys away after we have finished playing.  We have also enjoyed making cookies to share with one another. Why not try the recipe (see below) at home! We would love to see photos of how your cookies turned out!

This delicious cooking recipe is lovely and crunchy on the outside, yet chewy in the middle. It’s really easy and makes plenty of cookies too (14-16)

Ingredients:

  • 100g (4oz) butter

  • 100g (4oz) soft brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp. golden syrup

  • 150g (6oz) self-raising flour

  • 75g (3oz) chocolate chips

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 ﮿C  / gas mark 4.

  1. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.

  1. Place the butter and sugar in a large bowl and cream together.

  1. Add the flour, syrup and chocolate chips to the creamed ingredients. Mix all the ingredients together until it forms a ball.

  1. Divide the mixture into 14-16 small balls (roll them between your hands to form smooth balls.

  1. Place them onto the backing trays. Make sure they are spaced apart as they spread out when they are cooking (this is a great talking point with your child).

  1. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes or until golden brown

  1. Leave on the baking tray for 2-3 minutes then transfer to a rack to cool completely.

We have been using musical instruments and playing clapping games to develop our listening skills. The children enjoyed exploring the different sounds that the instruments make as well as developing a sense of rhythm and beat when singing Nursery Rhymes.
