Weekly Update - w/c 14 October

As we start our 7th week in Reception, it is wonderful to see how settled the children have become and to watch the friendships that are growing between the children.

This week in phonics, our focus phonemes were h, b, f and l and the children also learnt to recognise the tricky word 'the'.

In maths, the children learnt to use the balance scales to compare the mass of objects. They could recognise when an object was lighter or heavier or when two objects had the same mass and the scales were 'balanced'.

In other lessons, we looked at animals and how we could sort them into animals that are pets (domestic animals) and those that are wild. With animals in our thoughts, we then turned to junk modelling. We thought about the different ways to attach resources together ( e.g glue, sellotape, string etc.) and how we could embellish our models to make them look like animals. With support, the children made some incredibly imaginative animals.
