Week beginning 14.10.24

This week we have been reading 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.

We have read different versions of the story and have talked about who the characters are. The children have enjoyed joining in with the repetitive phrases and changing their voice to represent each bear. Ask your child to retell you some parts of the story. Don’t worry if it is in the wrong order at this stage.

The children had to use their problem-solving skills to work out which bowl belonged to which bear. They gave some amazing answers e.g. "This is big, like Daddy bear". Or, "This bowl is Baby bear's because it is small".

To connect with the story, we went to explore the school's woodland area and retold the story. We collected things that we found interesting and talked about the textures (rough bark, soft feathers, smooth leaves). Here is what we found:

We also made porridge using oats and milk. We looked at how the texture changed (dry, wet, soggy, sticky, etc). We pretended to be Goldilocks trying the porridge – ‘This is too cold’. When we took it out of the microwave, they all said it would be ‘Too hot!’ Once it had cooled down, the children had an opportunity to taste the porridge.

‘Just right!’

Please can you send in or email some family photos (including pets). Photos help to support your children to talk about the people/animals that are important to them.
